LETTER TO DON SURBER @ THE CHARLESTON DAILY MAIL

T. Paige DalportoPO Box 96Charlton HeightsWV 25040304 549-0332Dear Mr. Suber, I have listened to the voluble RL and his Flatulence in Broadcasting Nutwork spew his disenchantment with the left for 15 years...since the first George Bush. Rush is smart enough to know that the only way to get across his real message is to couch it in terms that are easier to swallow than his true objectives. That is absolute and tee-total demolition of the Democratic Party. He absolutely cannot stand liberals, democrats, Bill and Hillary, and anyone who disagrees with his view of a great and undefiled America. Rush is an ‘ends justifies the means’ kinda guy. In other words he can say one thing and actually believe and want the total opposite. Another tool in his bag of tricks is counter-accusation. And accusing your enemy of doing or saying or promoting what you are most guilty of. RL is, in psychological terms, dissociative: the type of personality that absolutely could not function without someone to stand in as The Enemy. He spends at least 80% of his radio program talking about these people who are the problem, who are all that is wrong with America. Granted he’s got a ton of material work with. Because none of us are perfect. And liberals can be just as useless as anybody when it comes to screwing up. But, while we are all focused on The Enemy "out there" the real culprit has a field day robbing us blind. For some reason we live in an age of extremes...we even love the word Extreme. It’s a great marketing tool. It’s entertaining and captivating to hear someone rant and rave extremism, either left or right, on the radio for 3 hours a day. But it’s not a good way to run a country. I have come to see the middle as the proper political place to be. Imagine a straight line. At the ends are the extreme left and the extreme right. You can say that the right end is all that has been before, and the left is all that is to come, or may come. And the voices at these two ends argue with each other over who will lead. But when the point in the middle of this flat line rises up, what you eventually have, when the middle is elevated to it’s proper height, is a pyramid. Now the middle has become the top. From the top of the pyramid you can see all around you and make good decisions about where the country should go, viewing both the past and the future. If we live and believe as Rush does we will never get off the ground. We will continue to be flat liners mired in this attack-counter-attack mode, spending all our time arguing with Rush and other ideologues over turf. When what we needed to be doing was scaling the heights. Republicans and Democrats both talk a good game. But what they actually end up doing to achieve these goals is in total opposition to their own stated goals. It’s called hypocrisy. The human corruptibility factor. And we are all susceptible to it. "Boy, if we could just implement our plan without that human factor of fallibility, why the country would grow by leaps and bounds and be a veritable heaven on earth. It says so right here in our Plan. If we could just get those other guys either on board or out of the way." And so I add this: A human pyramid should not crush the people on the bottom. That, unfortunately, is not the case today.

The English Language called
and it wants its word back. It says you've had it long enough. Find another way to express whatever it was you were trying to say. Consult your Thesaurus. "Cool""Gay""Man"Thanks, T.E.L.

Upside of a downturn
Can you imagine what will happen when parents can no longer afford video games? The kids will hit the streets in great numbers. The kids will have to create their own fun.The kids will have to develop an imagination. It's great to be 60 years old and make these kinds of pronouncements.

In Our TimeT. Paige God will walk beside usTrees will lean to guide usMystery is illuminedAt last we become humanOlive branches fill the airTill doves of peace hover thereIn our time. Then I wake to find usWhen we were behind usCould this be the finishWhen we were just beginningWill olive branches fill the airWill doves of perfect peace appearIn our time? (C) 2009 T. Paige
